What is OCI Application?

The OCI application is an application that can be applied by individuals who are of Indian origin but are residents or citizens of other countries. This enables individuals to connect with their Indian roots while enjoying some privileges, like multiple entries in the country, the ability to own a property, and access to consular services. This OCI program acts as a bridge between the Indian-origin foreign nationals and their roots.

Eligibility:

The eligibility criteria for OCI application have certain parameters that need to be considered:

• Foreign Nationals who were citizens of India at or any time after 26th January 1950.

• Individuals who were eligible for Indian citizenship on 26th January 1950.

• Those who belonged to territories that became India after 15th August 1947.

• An offspring or grandchildren of such a citizen.

• A minor child of any such person mentioned above.

• A minor child whose parents are citizens of India or any parent who is a citizen of India.

Benefits:

Some of the benefits enjoyed by OCI cardholders are:

• Multiple entries for multiple purposes, lifelong visa to visit India.

• Exempted from reporting to police about length of stay in India.

• Parity of NRIs in the economic, financial, and educational fields is expected for the acquisition of plantation or agricultural land.

Application:

The process of application of an OCI card involves a few steps:

• Online application form fill up on the https://passport.gov.in/oci/ website.

• Submit the printed copy of the application form along with supporting documents.

• Applicants are required to submit two sets of the application and are required to fill both part A and part B of the form.
